The  FCC  has released its official agenda for its February Open Meeting on Thursday (2/23), and among the items that will be put up for a vote is “GN Docket No. 16-142.” This would authorize the permissive use of the “Next Generation” broadcast TV standard, ATSC 3.0 . Specifically, the three members of the Commission will consider a Notice of Proposed Rulemaking that proposes to let television broadcasters use this new broadcast television transmission standard associated with recent work of the Advanced Television Systems Committee on a voluntary, market-driven basis. The NPRM is perhaps one of the biggest highlights of the Open Meeting, which will begin at 10:30 a.m. in Room TW-C305 at the FCC’s Southwest Washington, D.C.
