    Artel Video Systems , a provider of real-time multimedia delivery solutions, has created a Board of Advisors to help guide its growth as a broadcast media tech company. In doing so, it has welcomed Brian Cabeceiras and Eric Pfaff as its first members. Cabeceiras brings 36 years of executive leadership experience spanning sales and marketing, systems, strategy, and technology in the media and entertainment technology industry. Prior to joining Artel’s Board of Advisors, he was Chief Strategy Officer for Imagine Communications and Chief Technology Officer for Harris Broadcast Communications . Cabeceiras brings a wealth of Fortune 500 operational experience to Artel from his career at Sony Broadcast, Tektronix/Grass Valley Group, Seachange International, Leitch Technology and Harris Broadcast-Imagine Communications

    NVerzion Appoints A New Western Regional Sales Rep

    Automation and video server systems solutions provider Nverzion has bulked up its marketing and sales team by naming a 30-year industry veteran as its West Coast sales representative. Taking the role is Larry Enroth, who Nverzion calls “an ideal match” for its marketing and sales division. “Enroth’s ability to develop and execute strategies to penetrate the broadcast markets as well as the PEG markets will create advantages for our existing dealer network and customer base,” the company said. Explaining why it selected Enroth, NVerzion Sales Manager  Reed Haslam  said, “We looked across the industry for just the right person to work the West Coast as our representative and could not ask for a better person to serve our customer base during the migration to HD and 4K and beyond. With his experience and knowledge of the workflow in the broadcast environment, he will bring a new level of customer experience to the West Coast television stations.” Prior to starting his own business, Enroth worked in Broadcast and Professional Audio and Video Direct Sales for some 35 years

    VITEC Ready To Unveil New Video Encoding, Streaming Tech

    VITEC , the French company specializing in advanced video encoding and streaming solutions, is ready to roll out the next generation of the HEVC Gen2 codec for the MGW Ace 4:2:2 10-bit HEVC encoder and MGW Ace decoder solution. It is also set to release the latest version of itse 4K HEVC MGW Vision encoder; broadcast-grade IPTV and digital signage platform EZ TV ; and its PX Media Library media management solution.     Veritone Vaults Ahead On Positive ‘AI’ Report

    Veritone Media shares soared by nearly 50% on very heavy volume of 1 million shares in Monday’s trading. The rebound for the company’s stock comes following a Friday report at Barrons.com that notes artificial intelligence — the key focus of Veritone’s efforts — is getting a lot smarter. Meanwhile,  Saga Communications  enjoyed a positive start to the trading week, with shares climbing 2.3%, to $40.55

    ‘The New FCC: Working To Right The Course’

    The  FCC  is on the right track, especially concerning the touchy subject of “net neutrality.” That’s the key takeaway from remarks made over the weekend by FCC Commissioner Michael O’Rielly. In a speech delivered Saturday by O’Rielly to the Americans for Prosperity’s 2017 Defending the American Dream Summit in Richmond, the Republican Commissioner asserted that it is the FCC’s job “is to provide an environment for such innovation and investment to flourish in the communications technology sector while protecting consumers along the way.” He noted, “Since the earliest days of the commercial Internet, there was bipartisan consensus that the best way to advance that objective was to maintain as minimalist a role for government as possible.

    Riedel North America’s New OM Settles In

    In a move that the company says “will improve customer service and streamline internal processes,” Riedel Communications has promoted Jake Halverson to OM within the company’s North America team. In his new role, which he has settled into over the last several weeks, Halverson is now managing the technical support and services department at Riedel, while serving as a client liaison with the Riedel factory. Halverson is also overseeing logistics and sales administration, facilitating communication between departments to maintain an environment of continuous improvement.

    Rhode Island’s NPR Member Sells In Providence

    As the calendar year began, “Arnie the Corsair” — and the decision makers at  University of Massachusetts Dartmouth  made a decision that would reverberate across campus  and into much of the New Bedford-Fall River, Mass., listening area: Class B1 WUMD-FM 89.3 was being sold by UMass Dartmouth to  Rhode Island Public Radio . The $1.5 million deal, which includes a decade’s worth of underwriting announcements, was protested by WUMD volunteers who launched a campaign designed to save the station.
