    Note: This story was corrected at 5:45pm Eastern to reflect that the Commission has unanimously approved MB Docket No. 13-249 and MB Docket No. 12-217, which fully explains the elimination of these items from the agenda of the September Open Meeting.     AM Revitalization Order Yanked From FCC Open Meeting

    In a late afternoon notice with no explanation, the FCC on Friday deleted two agenda items from its September Open Meeting, set for Tuesday morning. The first of the two deleted agenda items focuses on the modernization of the FCC’s cable television technical rules. The second agenda item was a report and order that would have relaxed or eliminated certain rules tied to “revitalization of the AM radio service.” Listed as “MB Docket No. 13-249,” the Commission was set to consider a Third Report and Order that relaxes or eliminates “certain rules pertaining to AM broadcasters employing and maintaining directional antenna arrays.” The “Cable Television Technical and Operational Standards” item, “MB Docket No

    Veritone Stock Soars Again On IBC Win

    U.S. financial markets ended the week on a downbeat, as the Dow Jones Industrial Average slipped 10.12, to 22,349.11 in Friday’s trading. The Dow had been down further in the 1pm hour, with improvements seen in the final hour of trading.     Documenting Self-inspection FCC Certifications

    Any Certificate of FCC Regulatory Compliance is not worth the paper it’s printed on without the conditions upon which it was issued. Media Information Bureau featured columnist Ken Benner addressed this premise with the first such certificate he issued following a station inspection when the “mock” inspection program was initiated. “So how do we document a legitimate certificate of compliance that is required to be posted in the station’s reception lobby so as to be readily visible should an official FCC inspector visit your station?,” he asks

    Post-Incentive Auction Second Filing Window Opens Oct. 3

    Upon conclusion of the FCC’s incentive auction (a.k.a. Auction 1000), the Commission initiated a transition period during which the facilities of broadcast television stations that received new channel assignments in the post-incentive auction repacking process will be reauthorized and relicensed. As directed by the Commission, this transition period includes two filing windows for eligible full power and Class A stations to file for alternate channels and expanded facilities. The first priority filing window closed last Friday (9/15).

    Univision Sets New News Leaders In San Francisco

    Hispanic-market multimedia company Univision Communications has set two new news executive for its San Francisco Bay Area operations. Carolina Nuñez  will now serve as VP/Regional News Director, while Luis Felipe Godinez takes the role of Assistant News Director. The appointments are effective immediately and were formally announced Sept. 21 by Univision.

    Former RAB Leader Gary Fries Dies

    In a message sent to Streamline Publishing co-owned publication  Radio INK  on Friday, the son of former Radio Advertising Bureau President/CEO  Gary Fries  confirmed his passing early today, Pacific time, in Arizona. Todd Fries thanked everyone for their support and prayers, noting that his father peacefully passed at 3:13pm Eastern. “In leaving this world for a better place, he did it in typical Gary fashion,” Fries said. “His determination and heart astounded the entire Hospice staff.” He added, “In their process they would most likely have notified the family  on Saturday  that it would be soon, but in typical Gary mentality he proved them all wrong, going until  Friday
